Kampala: Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) former president now leader of the People’s Front Transition Movement political pressure group Col.Kizza Besigye has tasked his former boss Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa to explain what he calls dishonest in managing security threats.
Besigye questions why the ADF that the government said had only remained with 300 individuals by 2018 would call for the deployment of such artillery, yet there have been heightened deployments at the borders.
He says the operation to flush out rebels should be left to the Congo government and UN stabilization mission in Congo.
Few days ago UPDF launched airstrikes on four camps said to be ADF bases in DR Congo.
This was after two bombs were detonated in the heart of Kampala last month, with the government accusing ADF of being behind the bombings that left seven people dead.
The UPDF operation in DR Congo is code-named, “Operation Shujaa”.
Successful Attack
Last Sunday, the UPDF Chief of Land Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who was reportedly involved in planning the counter-ADF attack from June, reported successes in the air and artillery bombardment of the ADF bases in eastern DR Congo, did not provide details.
“Since the beginning of Op Shujaa 5 days ago, our valiant troops together with our Congolese brothers have achieved tremendous successes. We thank our compatriots for their support. Long live the brotherhood between the people of DR Congo and Ug! We shall triumph against the terrorists,” he tweeted.
