Controversy As Police Threatens To Arrest Ziggy Wine’s Relatives

Kampala: The gruesome death of Bobi Wine supporter and singer Michael Arinda aka Ziggy Wine has sparked off even more controversy after police threatening to arrest his relatives.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told the media on Tuesday that whereas some sections of the public claim that Ziggy Wine had been kidnapped and tortured prior to his death, police investigations actually reveal that he died from wounds sustained during an accident.

Enanga said according to Roy Ataro, an eyewitness, Ziggy,  was riding a Honda motorcycle registration number UDC 433, when he rammed into her on July 21, 2019. He revealed that Ataro, a nursery teacher, said she was returning from school that fateful night of the accident. Ziggy and her, she said, were severely injured and the musician died on August 4. Enanga said Ziggy and Ataro were both rushed to a nearby Hope Medical Centre in Kyebando but relatives of Ataro quickly transferred her to another medical facility. On arrival, Simon Kule Ahebwa, an enrolled nurse at the facility, who police paraded as an eyewitness at the press conference, said Ziggy was referred to Mulago for specialised treatment although he didn’t reveal where Ataro had been transferred to.

Enanga noted that Ziggy’s friends and relatives knew that he had been involved in an accident but withheld the information and instead opted to hoodwink the public that he had been abducted and tortured by security agents. He thus noted that the police are considering arresting Ziggy Wine’s relatives who were taking care of him at hospital and charge them with giving misleading information to the public.

However, Enanga did not explain elaborately about the injuries found on Ziggy Wine’s body and his fingers that had been chopped off, because the fingers couldn’t be traced at the scene. While explaining the burn marks on Ziggy’s body, Enanga noted that the exhaust pipe of the motorbike had burnt the deceased when fell and it landed on him.

Enanga also revealed that on the fateful night of Ziggy’s accident, he allegedly knocked a teacher identified as Roy Ataro.  But what is not yet clear is why the knocked teacher did not report a traffic offence case at Kyebando police and why no traffic police officer in the busy Kyebando suburb reported or registered an accident within the area and only  word about the same came up on Tuesday, after Ziggy’s death, yet he had gotten the accident on Friday night. It is also rare for someone to get involved in an accident and end up with a plucked out eye. Some eyewitnesses are also wondering how Ziggy, who purportedly was riding a motorbike, knocked somebody (Ataro), but that he (Ziggy) ended up sustaining grave wounds, yet the knocked teacher (Ataro) got some injuries but was later taken away by relatives from Hope Clinic who didn’t even report to police. However, Enanga revealed that the police are still conducting investigations and we shall bring you the details soon. Watch this space!
