Uganda’s leading technologically enabled, Victoria University is just left with four days to conduct its guild elections scheduled for 12th and 13th January 2022.
Among the candidates battling for the guild seats in this year’s elections include; Etomet Gilbert, Serere Eugan, Dennis Rwothomio, Carter Jorine Karyn and Mulangira Nakibinge.
Just like it was in 2022, this year’s elections will be conducted online from 9am on 12th to 5pm on 13th.
Speaking to journalists last year on why they chose to conduct virtual elections, Vice Chancellor, Prof.Lawrence Muganga, said this is meant to enable all students conveniently participate from where ever they are.

”Being an international University, we have students in various parts of the world, so with virtual elections they are able to participate, i think that’s the true meaning of democratic elections, said Muganga.
With these virtual elections, students log into their accounts, and are allowed vote only once and when their vote is recorded, the voting button is automatically disabled which gives no room for instances of vote-rigging or electoral malpractice.
According to Muganga, the system makes work easy not only for the electoral commission but also for the candidates who will be in their sitting rooms and via their computers keep monitoring the numbers of votes and percentages they have scored.
