Mukono: The Chief Magistrates court in Mukono has issued an arrest warrant against Uganda’s ambassador to Burundi General Matayo Kyaligonza.
The warrant, dated May 27th, 2019, issued by Chief Magistrate Juliet .H. Hatanga, directs all police officers in Uganda to arrest Maj. Gen. Matayo. B. Kyaligonza and produce him before court, to answer charges vide file number  CO-0312/2019. Kyaligonza is charged with causing Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm contrary to Section 236 of the Penal Code Act. He is  jointly charged with his two body guards CPL Busindiche Peter and Private John Okurut. Kyaligonza’s troubles started on February 24th, 2019, when he and his UPDF bodyguards allegedly slapped a traffic police officer identified as Esther Namaganda, who had prohibited them from making a U-Turn in Seeta town, Mukono district.
It is alleged that when Namaganda flagged down Kyaligonza’s SUV on the fateful day, his bodyguards jumped out and rained slaps of her. Before long, Kyaligonza himself allegedly joined the bodyguards in brutalizing the Police officer. Kyaligonza’s acts and those of his bodyguards sparked off national uproar, with many Ugandans calling for his arrest and suspension as Uganda’s ambassador to Burundi. However, the General has since refuted the allegations as concocted lies aimed at tarnishing his name.
