Court Martial Sentences Soldier To 101 Years In Prison Over Murder Of Three

Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier who has been convicted of murder by the army’s Court martial has been sentenced to 101 years in prison, a punishment court said will discourage other soldiers from committing such offences.

Prosecution told Second Division Court Martial sitting at Mubanda Primary School in Ryeru Sub County in Rubirizi District that on December 27, 2020, at around 0200hours, AX017942 Bobson Amutuhereize with malice aforethought, shot Ms Scovia Tibakazire using an SMG gun number 5603545 injuring her before she died on the way to the hospital.

Court chaired by Lt. Col Emmanuel Mwesigwa heard that Private Amutuhereize also shot and killed Olivia Ninsiima, 25 and Conrad Mayi Ainembabazi, and injured Maureen Kyakusiimire, 23 Rahman Mawegye, 3 and Shiran Ahimbisibwe, 9.

The court, therefore, ruled that Bobson will serve 101 years in Kyamugolonanyi government prison if he does not appeal against the sentence in 14 days from the date of sentence.
