The number of confirmed Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Uganda have risen  to 75, with 46 recoveries, after one new case was confirmed on Friday.

According to information from the Ministry Health, one  new COVID-19 case  was confirmed,  among the 1,116 samples of truck drivers.

The new case is a Ugandan driver who arrived from Kenya via Malaba.

All 417 samples in the community tested negative. Total samples tested on Friday were 1,533.

However, this comes a few days  to President Yoweri Museveni’s 12th National Address about Coronavirus, which is slated for Tuesday 28th, 2020.

Commenting about the increasing number of infections among truck drivers, Museveni tweeted thus;  “We started at the airport and we are now shifting to land borders.

Tests have shown that we have problems with the truck drivers and at this very moment, the Minister of Health is meeting line ministers of the different East African Countries to map a way forward.”

He added that “We want to test these drivers before they come here. They should only be allowed to move when the results are released. I will detailedly address this matter on Tuesday.”
