COVID -19 Cases In Uganda Rise To 763 After MoH Confirms 8 New Infected People

The of cumulative Coronavirus (COVID-19)  cases in Uganda has risen to 763, according to Ministry of Health results from samples tested on Friday June 19, 2020, out of which 8 new cases were confirmed.

The new cases of infections include 5 truck drivers from Points of Entry: 3 from Elegu, 1 from Busia, and 1 from Malaba.

The Ministry revealed that 3 are among contacts and alerts, all from Kyotera District.

Meanwhile, officials from the Ministry revealed that 25 foreign truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 and were returned to their respective country of origin and that the Total Recoveries in Uganda are 492.

The results include 1,154 Samples from Points of Entry, plus 696 Samples from alerts and contacts, making a grand total of 1,850 samples tested.

It should be noted that

The world is currently faced with a pandemic of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), a new virus that spreads so fast through droplet infection especially in crowded places and causes illness.  It is spread from person to person through sneezing or coughing (droplet infection), human to human contact and contact with contaminated surfaces.

Signs and symptoms of COVID-19 include:

Fever

Running Nose (flu)

Cough

General Weakness

Difficulty in breathing if the patient develops pneumonia

At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments.

The Ministry urges Ugandans to wear face masks at all times, maintain social distance when in crowded places, wash hands frequently with soap or use sanitizer, clean door handles, tables, desks, utensils frequently, plus avoiding to touch one’s mouth, nose or eyes with dirty hands.
