The police in Kasese District have arrested who brutally strangled his 71-year-old mother to death after she refused to give him Shs200 to buy cigarettes.
The suspect has been identified as Mbusa Minadabu, a resident of Kinyamaseke Store Cell, in Kanzo town, Kasese district.
Neighbours told police that Minadabu stormed his mother Jane Biira’s home on Friday night at around 9:00Pm and demanded that she gives him Shs200, such that he could go to a nearby shop and buy cigarettes. The mother told him she did not have the money, although he did not believe her.
It is said that when Biira told her son that she did not have money, he started insulting her and soon a scuffle ensued between them, during which he strangled her to death, after chasing her grandchildren out of the house.
After strangling his mother, Minadabu fled the scene, but one of the grandkids who had seen him struggling with the old woman raised an alarm which alerted neighbours, who in turn alerted the police and a hunt for the killer was launched.
Neighbours told this website after several hours of hunting for him, Minadabu was smoked out from his hideout in Kinyamaseke west cell, where he was arrested and taken to police to face murder charges.
Alex Kyankaaga, the Officer in Charge (OC) Kinyamaseke Police, said that investigations into Biira’s death are ongoing and that the police are waiting for a postmortem report from Bwera Hospital, which will guide the course of the investigation.
Angela Kabugho, a relative of the deceased said that “Minadabu had spent a long time threatening to kill his mother ever since he started smoking weed.”
The deceased was later handed over to the relatives for burial as Minadabu waits to be paraded in court to face murder charges.
