Bushenyi: Â Minister and Members of Parliament from Bushenyi district on Monday donated 60 tonnes of posho to the COVID-19 District Task Force, to be distributed to people affected by the Coronavirus lockdown.
Among those who donated was the Minister for General Duties in the office of the Prime Minister Mary Karooro Okurut, who  is also the Bushenyi district woman MP,  Rapheal Magyezi, the Minister for Local Government who also doubles as Igara West MP, Michael Mawanda, the MP Igara East and tycoon Hassan Bassajjabalaba.
While donating the food, Minister Karooro urged fellow leaders to donate food, no matter their political party, religion or tribe and to work together with the people they lead in the fight against Coronavirus.
The Minister however refuted rumours that have been circulating in Bushenyi district alleging that she stole tonnes of posho from the national store and sent it to Bushenyi district.
“Indeed politics is a dirty game; I heard that there are some people who misinformed the public that I and Michael Mawanda stole tonnes of posho from the national food store and hid them in Hassan Bassajjabalaba’s stores. It’s false because even these 60.5 tonnes of posho we have donated here were processed and packed by our own businessman from Kizinda Ishaka in Bushenyi district, even if you go there, you can confirm.” Karooro said.
On his part, Mawanda hailed the health workers in Bushenyi district for working tirelessly in the fight against COVID-19 and added that as Bushenyi Members of Parliament, they are preparing themselves to bring more tonnes of posho for the people.
