Kampala: The Ministry of Health has confirmed that Uganda has registered 16th COVID-19 deaths and 53 new cases from results tested on 18 August 2020 that raised total cases to 1,656, 16 deaths, and 1,188 recoveries.
“The Ministry of Health would like to inform the general public that Uganda has registered one (1) death. This brings the total COVID-19 deaths to sixteen (16).” the statement read.
According to the statement, the deceased is a 60-year-old Ugandan male from Mbale District. He presented at a private health facility in Mbale District with signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and was under isolation.
He was then referred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for further management where he passed on.
Of the fifty three (53) confirmed cases, thirty five (35) are alerts and eighteen (18) are contacts to previously confirmed cases.
Regarding the thirty two (32) alerts, twenty eight (28) are from Kampala, two (2) from Wakiso, two (2) from Amuru and three (3) from Buikwe, Buvuma and Soroti
The eighteen (18) contacts to previously confirmed cases are broken down as follows;- ten (10) are from Kikuube, five (5) are from Kampala and three (3) are from Busia, Masindi and Wakiso.
However, eleven (11) foreign truck drivers (10 Kenyans and 1 Rwandese) tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.
