Kampala: Due to the rapid transmission of COVID-19 cases, President Yoweri Museveni has declared Saturday, 29th August 2020, a day of National Prayers and a Public Holiday to seek God’s intervention.
Museveni revealed this through his facebook page where he said that a certain Ugandan told him that he dreamt God telling him in a vision to organise National Prayers, scientifically organised, for God to deliver Uganda from COVID-19.
“Therefore, by the powers given to the President of Uganda by Section 2(2) of the Public Holidays Act, I declare the 29th of August 2020, a day of National Prayers and a Public Holiday. Stay in your houses or Compounds and pray,” Museveni posted.

“I have invited a few religious leaders to come to Entebbe State House and pray together with Janet and myself when you are all watching on TV or listening on Radios,” he said
He appealed to all Ugandans to join this massive act of supplication. “Mushabe, muryaheebwa, musherure, muryazoora”, he said, adding that I remember it from our priests at Kyamate in the 1950s.
“This is in the Book of Matthew chapter 7 verse 7. In English it says: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
These come after Ministry of Health confirmed that Uganda has registered 155 new COVID-19 cases and 2 deaths from samples tested on 26 August 2020, bringing total cases to 2,679, 28 deaths and 1,268 recoveries.
The breakdown of the 155 new COVID-19 cases is: Contacts and alerts (140); Kampala -71, Kikuube 12, Jija 8, Wakiso- 8, Mbarara 6, Mukono- 6, Tororo- 5, Gulu 4, Kitgum 3, Pader 3, Kisoro -2, Buikwe – 2, Luweero 2, Bundibugyo-1, Busia – 1, Isingiro- 1, Kapchorwa- 1, Kasese -1, Kiryandongo- 1, Kyegegwa -1 and Mbale-1 Health workers (9): Kampala- 6, Wakiso-2 and Jinja -1, Truck drivers (5) from different points of entry: Malaba – 2, Mutukula 1, Busia-1 and Bwera 1
In the same vein, Ministry of health tested 14 truck drivers who tested positive for COVD-19 and were requested to return to their country of Origin.
In addition, Ministry tested 1,388 samples from points of entry, 3,125 samples from alerts and contacts raising total number of samples tested the whole day to 4,513 while cumulative samples tested since Coronavirus outbreak in Uganda stands at 363,802.
