Gorgeous Esther Kyokunda aka Theo, a humble girl from Mbarara District, has been endorsed as Uganda’s only female Certified Flight Instructor, after she completed her training a few days ago.
Kyokunda, a very ambitious aviator, has been undergoing training for the past three years until a few months ago when she completed her training and was fully certified by the Uganda Professional Pilots Association (UPPA).
While congratulating Kyokunda upon her landmark achievement, UPPA tweeted thus; “Nearly 6 decades post-independence, Uganda gets her first and only female CFI (Certified flight instructor) in Kyokunda Esther aka Theo. May your glass ceiling shuttering feat inspire many Ugandan girls into a career path in Aviation. Congrats @theo_astar @UgandaCAA @MoWT_Uganda”
Who Is Kyokunda
Having started her aviation journey immediately after completing her senior six, Kyokunda has soared through her career with no regrets. She braved all the challenges that came with studying amid air and did not let anything get in the way of her already blossoming success in aviation.
At only 25 years, Kyokunda went down in Uganda’s history books as the first female Certified Flight Instructor. In so much happiness, she expressed her emotions in a tweet reading;
“I would have to say the negativity comes from the fact that people do not know much about the aviation industry. Personally, before I started, I was doubting the whole pilot business but as I went on with the course, I gained more knowledge about the aviation industry.
Also, people claim that there are no jobs back home but that isn’t true. There are a couple of charter companies in Uganda and you can always go work in a different country as long as you have the right qualification(s).”
Kyokunda was born in Kampala, Uganda and hails from Rutooma, Mbarara District.
She says being a pilot was a childhood dream and she had always wanted to fly planes.
