Katamba who officially joined the bank on December 1, 2018 on a contract of five years is seeking for a loan equivalent to Shs862.3 to refinance a house mortgage acquired during his time at Housing Finance Bank. He had acquired the mortgage at Shs1.3 billion but had cleared Shs965 million.
According to reports, Katamba’s huge loan application which came months after joining the bank, has not gone well with the colleagues he found there. His loan facility is to run for eight years.
Katamba’s loan application came only weeks after hackers interfered with the bank’s system, taking off with money believed to be in billions of shillings.
Dfcu bank has for months been in thefty scandles and the latest was last week when Three Dfcu bank officials appeared at the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) in connection to the theft of unspecified among of customers’ deposits.
CID spokesperson, Charles Twine confirmed that the three officials whose names he didn’t disclose were indeed interrogated on Tuesday following an official complaint lodged by the the bank’s top management.
“The dfcu case was formally reported here and investigations are ongoing. Some three people were picked, interrogated and released on bond. Because this is a crime that was committed electronically,” Twine said.
Although Twine declined to reveal how much money was stolen, media reports put the figure at Shs 8 billion. He also said detectives and their cybercrime team have already picked the computer logs and are analyzing them to establish how the fraudulent transactions were done. The media is only doing its job of informing the public and has no ill motives.
