The territorial police in Busoga conducted two operations in Buyende district, targeting criminal gangs involved in the robbery of boda boda motorcycles. A total of 7 suspected stolen motorcycles were recovered and an assortment of dismantled spare parts recovered.
On the 26.09.2023, at around 12 midday, a search operation was conducted at Irundu Trading Centre, at the home of Nfaki David, and 5 motorcycles recovered.
These included a mate registration number UDD 154C, TVS star registration number UDG 819W, 3 other number less motorcycles (TVs, Tembo and Bajaj boxer), an assortment of exhibits to wit, 4 frames, two motorcycle registration plates UDJ 003D and UDF 788N, two motor cycle registration numbers UAR 606C and UAR 897C, were recovered. The five suspects arrested include; Lubega Kenneth, Kitimbo Yusuf, Isma Dolio, Nfaki Solomon, and Nfaki David.
The operation was expanded to Kitimbo’s garage in Buyende, town council, at around 6pm, three suspects namely Kitimbo James, (garage owner), Kireri Fred, a boda boda rider of Nakabira stage and Bulolo Alex were alerted, and two suspected stolen motorcycles under registration number UDT 387T and UET 381X recovered.
”As we charge the 8 suspects to court, we continue to caution boda bodas, about late night road ambushes, by gangs targeting their boda bodas,” says Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga.
He says on the 24.9.2023, at around 10pm, a gang of 3 robberies, ambushed motorcycle riders at Nakitokolo village, along Bbaale – Galilaya highway. They hit and killed Wavamuno Ben, who was carrying his brother, Mumpya Mesach on motorcycle registration number UFR 907Y.
”The brother ran to a nearby farm and was taken to Kasokwe police post. The body of the victim was recovered with a deep wound on the forehead. Another rider, identifiefd as Musinguzi John, was found lying unconscious and his motorcycle robbed. He was rushed to Bbaale HC IV for treatment,” adds Enanga.
Another incident was registered in Aswa West, Nwoya police station, where a one, Okello Dickens was followed at his home in Adogachwa village, Lungulu sub county, Nwoya district and his motorcycle, Bajaja boxer red in color robbed. The victim who was hit to the head, was rushed to hospital.
Again on the 29.09.2023, at around 11:20pm, both Kiranga Moses, aged 28 and Isabirye Samuel, were riding on motorcycle registration number UFX 475G, bajaj boxer red in color, from Nawaikoke village, proceeding to Kasuleta village in Kaliro district. They fell into an ambush at Kafundikara village and the rider, Kiranga Moses was hit with a rod and killed instantly, and their motorcycle robbed. His colleague, Isabirye Samuel, sustained serious injuries and rushed to Bumanya HC IV for treatment.
”Our Flying Squad teams have been dispatched to the respective districts, to help identify the suspects and recover the stolen motorcycles. More updates will be availed,” says Enanga.
