The Electoral Commission has given the leadership of the NRM Transformers Cadres Association of Uganda a go-ahead to collect signatures for a referendum on the election of the President.
The Association is currently fronting the proposal for the president to be elected by the Members of Parliament and Local Government Leaders.
Following a series of engagements with different stakeholders, the EC has now cleared them to look for signatures.
Speaking to reporters in Kampala yesterday, the Association president Felix Adupa Ongwech said the Commission had finally responded to the association giving a green light to start the exercise; as per Article 255 of the Constitution.
The group also suggests the change of the presidential term limits and the creation of the second layer of parliament called the upper house or the senate.
