Kampala: The Head Coach of the Uganda Men’s National team, Johnathan McKinstry, has today “reached an agreement” with FUFA to bring an end to his 18 months at the helm of the Uganda Cranes.
“The guy has hunged up his boots, can’t stand the comedy in Uganda’s football,” an independent source close to Mckinstry who prefered anonymity told this reporter, contrary to what Fufa wrote on its website that they had ‘reached an agreement’.

Coach McKinstry departs Uganda having won 2 in every 3 games played, recording a 67% win rate from the 18 games he has overseen, including 12 wins, 3 draws and only 3 defeats.
In addition to this, Coach McKinstry guided Uganda to victory in the CECAFA Challenge Cup 2019 where Uganda won all of the games contested, for only the second time in their history.

Jonathan’s resignation comes a few weeks after FUFA’s top Executive Committee resolved to send him on forced leave so they could assess his performance and then see whether they still needed his services or not, something that he has not waited for.
“Yes, they have asked him to step aside from managing and coaching the team for the period from 2nd- 31st March 2021, so they can assess his performance well,” a source at FUFA house told our spy reporter then.
“In the meantime, Assistant Coaches, Mubiru Abdallah, Mbabazi Livingstone, and goalkeeping coach Kajoba Fred will take charge of the team during this period. The rest of the Technical team remains unchanged,” the source added.
However, another close and impeccable source at Mengo house however disclosed to Spy Uganda then, that telling McKinstry to ‘step aside’ was simply a diplomatic term to mean ‘he has been fired’!
