Entebbe: In a classical tale of the Hunter being Hunted, the Uganda Police Force have arrested one of their own officers, over allegations that he refused to implement Presidential Directives on the spread and prevention of Coronavirus.

SP Baker Kawonawo, the Entebbe District Police Commander, was  arrested  early this week, over allegations that he allowed some people to go past Entebbe International Airport without first undergoing screening and quarantine in his area of jurisdiction.

Sources reveal that  he has been in police cells for three days, although the charges for which he was arrested are yet to be pronounced by the police.

It is said that ever since President Yoweri Museveni issued directives aimed at mitigating and prevention of Coronavirus markets have been operating, bars were open, Entebbe International Airport was not being handled well in regard to health and safety precautions, which could be some of the reasons that led to SP Kawonawo’s arrest.

Insiders allege that it was because of the negligence of people like Kawonawo and   some Immigrations officials in Entebbe and at the Airport that Uganda registered cases of Coronavirus, who were people that sneaked into the country from Dubai and other COVID-19 High-risk countries.

However, police spokesperson Patrick Onyango is yet to issue a statement about Kawonawo’s arrest and whether there are others officers or Immigration officials who were involved.

We shall keep you posted about this developing story.
