A worrying incident happened on Thursday morning at Entebbe International Airport after an Ethiopian Airlines plane developed a mechanical fault and overshot the runway as it landed.
Fortunately, all 139 passengers and the crew survived and disembarked safely. Following the incident, Ethiopian Airlines has released an official statement apologizing for what happened.
The statement reads in part that “Ethiopian Airlines B-737-800 aircraft with registration number ET-ATV with flight number ET338 on 03 January 2019 on a regular scheduled service from Addis Ababa to Entebbe, Uganda, skidded off the runway by a few meters this morning at Entebbe International Airport during landing.
Passengers and crew were safely deplaned and were taken to the terminal and cleared normally through the regular clearance process. There is no damage to the aircraft and it is being towed to the ramp.”
The statement added that “We apologize to our valued customers who were onboard the flight for the inconvenience. An alternative flight is being arranged to complete the return flight and rebook the passengers, who were booked to travel from Entebbe to Addis Ababa”
