Uganda’s quest for a slot at the 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup came to an end on Sunday, after getting knocked out by Ethiopia.
The return leg played at Abebe Bikila Stadium ended in a one all draw, a result that saw Ethiopia progress to the next round.
Captain Shakira Nyinagahirwa fired Uganda in the lead, scoring in the 34th minute. However, Ethiopia got the equalizer in the second half through Eyerusalem Wondemu.
The result meant Ethiopia progressed to the second round on away goals rule. It should be noted that the first leg at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende ended in a two all draw.
In that game, Hadijah Nandago had scored a brace but Ethiopia netted two late goals.
Ethiopia will therefore face South Africa at the next stage of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
