Exclusive: Makerere University Announces Resumption Of Classes, October 5 2020

Kampala: Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, president Yoweri Museveni ordered closure of all learning institutions in Uganda on Mar 18, 2020. six months later, there’s only hope that they would be opened soon.

Meanwhile, Makerere University (MAK) has already released its classes academic calendar whose official opening is October 5, 2020.

The development comes a month after the Office of the Academic Registrar, Makerere University released the admission lists and the Cut-Off Points for Privately Sponsored Students for the Academic Year 2020/2021.

Professor Nawangwe said that the university had already extended the admission more than three times to accommodate everyone and aims at concentrate on planning for those they have already admitted. He, however, advised that those who feel that they were left out should petition the Ministry of Education.

According to the admission lists released, 14,298  students were admitted through direct entry, 139 on mature-age entry and 101, as international students. However, Students seeking to offer a Bachelor of Law programme for both the government and private intakes still have to wait a little longer because their admissions cannot be done without the pre-entry examinations.

Days after, the Offices of the Academic Registrars of public universities and degree-awarding institutions including Makerere University released the government admission lists of students for the Academic Year 2020/2021.

This was after, the Public University Joint Admission Board-PUJAB had concluded the selections of students who are joining universities during the 2020/2021 Academic Year, through the National Merit Government Sponsorship admissions with all public universities including Busitema, Gulu, Kyambogo, Makerere university among others.

Although both government and private sponsorship admission lists were out, the learning commencement dates remain subject to the Ministry of Education’s approval and reopening of education institutions.
