Kampala: The family of former IHK Dr. Catherine Agaba, who was brutally murdered and her body stuffed in a septic tank, has tasked government and President Yoweri Museveni to hunt down the real killers of their daughter.
Led by Mr Emmanuel Mbarebakyi, at the burial of their deceased daughter, the family asked police to look for the real killers, claiming that even though a private security guard had confessed to have murdered the doctor alone, he could have had accomplices. The family called up president Museveni take their issue seriously alongside other security organs and look for the serious killers so that they can receive justice at least.
A private security guard Ronald Obangakene, who is accused of murdering Dr Agaba, was on Wednesday remanded to Luzira maximum security Prison by Makindye magistrates court. court. Obangakene appeared before Makindye Magistrate John Okidi who read him charges of murder and aggravated robbery. He was not allowed to take any plea since the charges of a capital nature and can only be heard by a higher court. Later he was remanded to two weeks in Luzira prison until May 13th, 2019 when he will be produced again for another mention of his case. Kampala metropolitan spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed to Spy Uganda that before Obangakene was produced in court, he first wrote an extra judicial statement with one of the senior judicial officers and went for mental check up to confirm that the confession he earlier gave that he murdered Dr Agaba is true and wasn’t recorded from him out any influence.
“We have really rushed him to court because he has several times upon our interrogation confirmed that he is the one who committed murder of the doctor. So when we took the file to the State Attorney with such overwhelming evidence, he immediately sanctioned for him to be taken to court.” Onyango said on Easter Monday the world came to standstill after learning about the gruesome murder of Dr Agaba. The police later tracked down and arrested Obangakene from Apach district, who later led them to the apartment in Muyenga, where Agaba’s body had been stuffed in a septic tank. Police recovered a mobile phone, a gas cooker, a flat screen TV, home theater, other utensils which belonged to the deceased. Dr Agaba was laid to rest on Wednesday at her ancestral home in Ntura Parish, Kashari, Mbarara District.
