Kampala: Carrots are root vegetable usually orange in colour.

Carrots grow well in Sandy well drained loam soils.

Heavy loam soils lower carrot maturity.

Carrots take 70-80 day’s to mature.

Double dig your planting area or build up a raised bed.

Plant in rows of1-2 feet apart.

Make the soil tilled up to soften and make it easier for carrots to grow long and straight.

Apply fertilizers.

Do weeding, this boosts plant growth since there is less competition for plant nutrients.

Harvesting.

Before pulling out your carrots, use a fork to loosen the soil just outside the rows.

Pull sown carrots when roots reach maturity and show rich color.

Taste improves as they mature.

Don’t leave mature carrots in warm soils.

Store only best and undamaged roots after cutting their foliage (Leaves).
