FDC Okayed Salaamu Musumba To Withdraw Electoral Case Against Former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga

By Our Reporter

JInja: Deputy secretary General Forum for democratic change (FDC) Harold Kaija has revealed the party sat, discussed and okayed party member Salaam Musumba to withdraw an electoral petition she had lodged at the Jinja High Court against former speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga. This now contradicts some claims that Musumba had been compromised by Kadaga camp to withdraw the same.

“That matter (Musumba’s) is even on the party’s minute and the minutes are well kept where it was discussed and resolved that she should withdraw on humanitarian grounds,” Kaija told our reporter Andrew Irumba via phone call. John Kikonyogo, the party’s deputy spokesperson also said it wasn’t a surprise because he was ‘aware’. “It may actually be a surprise to Kadaga that she has withdrawn, because she wasn’t aware,” he said.

Kadaga’s lawyers led by Kaleb Alaka, John Mary Mugenyi, and Emma Opio however said Musumba withdrew because she lacked evidence.

Musumba was represented by counsels, John Isabirye, Julius Galisonga and Kyizira David among others.

Musumba has accused Kadaga of multiple electoral malpractices including vote rigging, electoral violence ballot stuffing among others. Musumba’s known telephone number was off by the time we went to press.
