FDC President Amuriat Arrested

By Samuel Opio

Police in Bunyangabu District in Western Uganda on Monday arrested and detained Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President Patrick Oboi Amuriat.

Amuriat was arrested as he tried to access Kasese FDC offices for a party meeting.  He had earlier escaped from Police at Rwimi where they had mounted a roadblock to stop him.

“We are still trying to find out where they took him, we don’t know where he is,” FDC’s deputy secretary general Mr.Harold Kaija told told TheSpy Uganda.

Amuriat and his colleague MP William Nzoghu team tried to argue with the police officers and tried to remove the spikes that were placed across the road by police.

Police spokesman Emilian Kayima was not readily available for a comment, while his deputy Patrick Onyango said he was unaware of the arrest.

But according to Kaija, this is one of many police blockades that Mr Amuriat has faced in a few weeks.

The party President has reportedly been stopped from traveling to Kumi, Soroti and Bukedea in the last one month.

“We don’t even know why they don’t want him to travel; they never tell us why they are stopping him,” Kaija said.
