Arua: Shock and fear have gripped police officers and people in West Nile after a Uganda Police officer being ambushed in the night and slaughtered like a goat, before his gun being stolen by unknown people .
Corporal Santos Chandwong, the in-charge Ayivuni Police Post, Ayivuni Sub County, was attacked on Wednesday night by unknown people who hacked him into pieces, before fleeing.
His AK 47 rifle with 54 rounds of ammunition was also stolen.
According to police sources, Chandwong was attacked while sleeping in his house near Ayivuni sub-county headquarters. The deceased was discovered on Thursday lying in a pool of blood.
The District Police Commander Arua Sam Suubi said that the police are investigating the circumstances and motive of Chandwong’s murder.
Chandwong was transferred from Ocoko Police Post along Arua- Nebbi road a month ago and taken to Ayivuni Sub County as the in-charge of the police post.
The body was on Friday taken to Arua hospital mortuary for post mortem and later to Gulu District for burial at his ancestral home in Omel village, Omer Sub County.
However, incidents of attacking police officers in the West Nile have perpetrated, despite police’s efforts to maintain security. This is the second police officer to be attacked and killed, following one who was attacked by unknown people in Ayivuni Sub County last year.
