Jinja, Uganda: The Police’ Elite Flying Squad yesterday ‘eliminated’ three suspected thugs after a 15 minute gunshot exchange in Masese 1 Village in Jinja.
At the end of the gunfire, three armed thugs lay dead; namely: Ramathan Lubwama, Patrick Ssemanda and Reuben Lukwago. The deceased were put out of action after they defied the police orders to surrender. The fourth suspect, managed to escape with a pistol. The hunt for him is on, according to Nkore the Jinja Police Commander. According to intelligence reports, police got a tip off that the thugs were planning to rob a fish dealer who was coming from Masese landing site. The names of the fish dealer remains a hidden secret. The Flying Squad team lay an ambush ahead of the thugs and trapped them as they moved in a Toyota Premio Reg. Number UAP 449S. While commenting about the incident, Jinja Regional Police Commander RPC Paul Nkole said that “We were tipped of that they were following a businessman who deals in fish and we lay an ambush for them. However, we warn all those who are thinking of terrorizing people in Jinja that we are waiting for them and shall handle them accordingly.”
There has been recent wave of armed robberies in Jinja and surrounding districts that has engulfed fear and trauma amongst the residents. The killing of the three is most likely to bring sanity to the archaic industrial town’. The bodies of the deceased are currently lying at Jinja Main Hospital, while the vehicle and the AK 47 recovered at kept at CPS in Jinja.
