At the time of his appointment, Thembo was heading the Uganda Communications Universal Service Access Fund (UCUSAF), which was previously Rural Communication Development Fund.
Thembo is also a former Member of Parliament who represented Kassanda South in Mubende district.
Aged 59, Thembo was one of the final four candidates from a pool of about 70 Ugandans who had applied for the job of UCC ED when it was advertised two months ago.
Eng Kaggwa is now the Director for Engineering and Communication Infrastructure. She had also applied for the job alongside Nyombi Thembo, Corporate Affairs Director Fred Otunnu and Industry Affairs Director Julianne Mweheire.
