The Ministry of Energy has launched an electricity expansion project aimed at extending the national power grid to various regions across the country, with Fort Portal City among the selected beneficiaries.

As part of this initiative, electric poles have been dispatched to different areas, and residents of Ibaale Ward, Central Division, have warmly welcomed the development. A truck transporting electric poles was recently seen in the area, marking the commencement of the installation process.

Hon. Alex Ruhunda, Member of Parliament for Fort Portal City, expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Energy for prioritizing the region. He emphasized that Fort Portal is one of the seven designated areas chosen for electrification under this program.

“The government is committed to ensuring that all communities have access to electricity. The installation of electric poles is a crucial step toward providing power to households and businesses, which will accelerate local development,” Hon. Ruhunda stated.

Residents of Ibaale Ward, who have long endured the absence of electricity, are optimistic about the project’s impact. Mugisa Patrick, a community member, acknowledged Hon. Ruhunda’s efforts in lobbying for the service, leading to this significant development.

“This is a dream come true for us. We have struggled without electricity, but now we see progress. We thank our leaders and the government for addressing our needs,” Mugisa remarked.

The electrification project is expected to stimulate economic activities, enhance living standards, and create opportunities for local businesses and education in Fort Portal City. Residents remain hopeful that the connection process will be completed swiftly so they can fully benefit from the initiative.

Access to electricity remains a fundamental driver of economic development and social transformation. In Uganda, the government has been implementing various electrification projects to ensure nationwide connectivity to the national power grid.

Through the Ministry of Energy, these initiatives aim to foster industrialization, improve educational opportunities, and enhance overall quality of life.

Fort Portal City, a key urban center in western Uganda, has been selected as a beneficiary of this latest electrification drive, reinforcing the government’s commitment to sustainable development and progress.
