Last year people of Fort Portal missed a chance of hosting the mountains of the moon rally after the Uganda Motor Club (UMC) shifted it to Kassanda district.
The event that was the fourth round of the National Rally Championship (NRC) left Batooro spitting venom while others dived into prayers to be considered for this year’s competitions.
“We are so much disappointed because we had anticipated that after the games were opened we shall hold our event. We were hit by the pandemic last year and our people had mobilised to use this event to boost their businesses, but now the mood is too low but anyway we are hopeful next year God will answer our prayers,” one of the motorsport fans told TheSpy Uganda reporter then.
Now, to have the Batooro prayers answered, God yesterday sent his beloved servant, Fort Portal MP Alex Ruhunda Akiiki aka Nikisoboka to meet President Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) Dipu Ruparelia over the above cause.
“In my bid to establish a home for a motor rally in Fort Portal Tourism City, I took time off to study how we can make a big bang in July when we host the big event. I had engagements with Mr Dipu the President of FMU thanks to Mr Amos Wekesa for making this happen,” said Ruhunda after the meeting.
Ruhunda adds that Fort Portal City can’t progress without key events that don’t only boost people’s businesses but also sell the beauty of the city to attract tourists.
“As I kept telling the people of Fort Portal Tourism City, that we need signature events to boost our businesses and profile our beautiful City to the world. This is one of the great strides I have kept going. Together we shall reap from the efforts of keeping our beautiful City shining. Nikisoboka!” he adds.
Fort Portal last hosted the rally competitions in 2015 for the first time after four decades.
