Fraudsters Arrested In Gulu With Fake Dollars Worth UGX3billion

Gulu: Fraudsters in Gulu have been arrested with fake dollars worth UGX3B-says David Ongom, the Aswa Regional Police spokesperson.

According to Ongom, on 30/12/2021, the two suspects, Oloya Innocent, 23, and Ayella Calvin, 35; both residents of Pecce-Laroo Division in Gulu City while at Wetland Guest House in Patongo Town Council, Agago District hatched a deal to meet one Otema Joel, a businessman to assist them to exchange the US Dollar currency into Uganda Shillings.

He says the businessman however, became suspicious after the suspects refused to proceed to the bank for the transaction.

”The police crime intelligence through the GISO were notified who immediately apprehended the suspects at the guest house,” says Ongom.

He says, after a search; the suspects were found in possession of a safe box containing $820,000, which in Uganda shillings would be about 3Billion.

The suspects are currently held at Patongo Central Police Station on charges of purchasing fogged currency notes.
