After two weeks on remand, the Buganda Road Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura and four other opposition activists, including Ingrid Turinawe. The group had been facing charges of public nuisance.

Presiding over the case, Grade One Magistrate Winnie Nankya released the five on a non-cash bail of UGX 500,000 each. In addition, each of their sureties was required to sign a non-cash bond of UGX 1 million.
The five activists, all associated with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga Road faction, were arrested after staging a protest along Ben Kiwanuka Street in Kampala’s Central Business District on February 17th, 2025. During the protest, they reportedly made provocative demands, calling for their own deaths while asking for Dr. Kizza Besigye, the veteran opposition figure, to be spared instead.

Magistrate Nankya ordered that all the accused persons report back to court on April 23rd, 2025, when their trial is set to commence. The sureties were instructed to ensure their attendance.
