The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced that Wankulukuku stadium is not allowed to host Uganda Premier League games with effect from October 30th 2019.
The condition of the Wankulukuku pitch worsened after it hosted a concert dubbed “Embuttu Y’e Mbutikizi’ on Sunday, after which revellers left it in a terrible state.
The stadium is home to UPL sides Express FC and Bright Stars FC, who have been hosting their games from the venue since the start of the season.
Express FC and Bright Stars will have to look for options elsewhere to host their league matches after FUFA put an indefinite ban on Wankulukuku.
In a letter to both clubs and copied to the league CEO, the FA suspended the stadium and wrote thus; “This serves to inform you that the state in which Wankulukuku is doesn’t meet the required minimum stadium standards to host the StarTimes Uganda Premier League matches….,” read part of the letter signed by Edgar Watson in part. “In line with the above, Wankulukuku stadium has been banned from hosting league matches with effect from 30th October 2019,” the letter adds.
Wankulukuku hosted the game between Express and Busoga United on Tuesday in state that was so poor, which prompted FUFA to take action.
The most affected game will be the one between Bright Stars and Onduparaka slated for this Saturday and then Tuesday next week when Express host Maroons.
The decision by FUFA to ban Wankulukuku comes a few days after the management of Namboole also suspended hosting of all games until two weeks elapse, such that the pitch can be given time to recover after revellers trampled it during the Masaza Cup finals.
