Four teams are in contention for the final playoff slot to confirm the third team that will earn promotion to the 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Gaddafi FC, Nyamityobora FC, Proline FC and Blacks Power FC are the teams that are already convened at the FUFA Technical Centre all with the ultimate target of qualification.
Nyamityobora FC and Proline FC have the experience of playing in the top tier league while Gadaffi FC and Blacks Power are seeking to earn to get promoted for the first time.
In the first game on Sunday, Nyamityobora FC who came third in the Rwenzori Group in the regular season will face Gaddafi FC that finished second in the Elgon Group.
Hassan Zungu, the head coach at Gaddafi FC is optimistic that his charges will execute the task at hand despite having glitches in their preparations.
“Our preparations were affected by the lockdown because all our training sessions were put to a halt but I’m still convinced that for the few days we have been with the team, the players are in good shape and ready to play. We hope to win our first game and also attain the ultimate target of getting promoted,” he said.
His counterpart, Richard Makumbi who has the experience of guiding teams to promotion (10) is also confident that the players will do the job regardless of the challenges at the club.
“We have not had the best preparations but I have a lot of belief in my players. They are committed and hopefully, they will be in the perfect conditions against Gadaffi,” he indicated.
In the other playoff game that will also be played on Sunday evening, Proline FC will take on Blacks Power FC (Formerly Bukedea Town Council FC) who are at this stage for the first time.
The winners of the aforementioned games will face off on Tuesday to determine the team that will get promoted.
Arua Hill SC and Tooro United FC already secured their places in next season’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League after topping Elgon and Rwenzori Group respectively.
The two will face off on Tuesday also to determine the Champion of the 2020/21 StarTimes FUFA Big League season.
