Kampala: As a way of communicating to communities through football and in line with its Corporate Social responsibility, FUFA extended another hand of support to the inmates after handing over sports equipment to Uganda Prisons Service to be used during football tournaments organised in the Luzira Upper Prison.
The brief function was held at FUFA House, Mengo. It was attended by FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim, Executive Member Issa Magoola, Prison top brass led by Assistant Commissioner of Prisons (ACP), Moses Sentalo, David Okiring Director of Sports Prisons Head Quarters and ASP Herbert Kaheeru In-Charge of Sports Upper Prison.
The equipment will be used during the FUFA Cup of Hope Football Tournament Final to be played between KCCA FC and Express FC (all teams in Upper Prison dropped the European club teams for local sides). The date for the final will be communicated by the authorities.
While handing over the equipment, Magogo noted, ”Our association with the Uganda Prisons excites us a lot as we get the chance to work with people inmates at Luzira Upper prisons. It is one of our activities on the FUFA Annual calendar.
It is an annual engagement with people who happen to be our friends, relatives, sisters, brothers both in service and inmates. We understand it is a process for those serving their sentences in Luzira. We have managed to take football educational courses so that once they are out, they can find a way of being welcomed to football.
We pride ourselves in the FUFA Cup of Hope as one of our activities. Our association with you is strategic, out of humanity and social responsibility. The best we can do is give hope to the people in Luzira. We shall engage clubs to get connected with the local teams in Luzira Prisons so that they can have their former players be part of the football tournament or support them differently.”
Since 2017, FUFA has delivered on its the promises of giving things like Sugar, Soap and cooking oil from the Uganda Cranes Sponsors BIDCO, a Brand New Desktop Computer, Sporting Equipment of Balls, Referees Equipment, Gloves and most importantly delivered a course for referees to manage the FUFA Cup of Hope Competition.
