FUFA Okays Kakyeka Stadium To Host Matches

By Brian Bariyo Tumuramye

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) inspection team passed in the affirmative the state of Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara, as fit to host the home games for Uganda Premier League outfit, Mbarara City Football Club.

This was confirmed on Wednesday through a letter sent to Mbarara City by the Uganda Premier League secretariat.

The letter reads in part this; “The secretariat has received a letter from FUFA indicating that Kakyeka Stadium has since met the minimum requirements to host Uganda Premier League games.”

It continues that “Accordingly, all Mbarara City FC home matches will now be hosted at Kakyeka Stadium-Mbarara.”

This is the second time Mbarara will be returning to Kakyeka after doing likewise in the first round, having initially hosted their games in Luzira.

The Ankole Lions were cleared and allowed to play in Mbarara with four games to the end of the first round.

Mbarara City FC has been hosting games at Bombo Barracks Grounds in Bombo; so far they have defeated Wakiso Giants and drawn with Vipers SC.

The field was deemed unplayable a while back and to be allowed to host matches, it had to be re-inspected by the FUFA licensing committee after refurbishment.

Mbarara City will now enjoy the privilege of hosting their home games in their backyard for the value of the 12th player, revenue and ‘intimidation’.

After getting the go-ahead to return to their home, Mbarara is to host Police FC at Kakyeka this Friday February 7th , 2020.

Mbarara City, currently coached by Brian Ssenyondo, has accumulated 26 points from 20 matches as they stand 8th position on the table of the 16 teams.
