Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is the Presidential Adviser on Special Operations and First Son, has raised eyebrows among several Ugandans after showering immense praises on Rwandan President Paul Kagame.
Gen. Muhoozi hailed Kagame by tweeting pictures of him, his father President Yoweri Museveni, fallen NRA commander Col. Fred Rwigyema and that of his uncle Gen. Salim Saleh, which he accompanied with the caption; “In my life it has always been very simple. Mzee, Afande Saleh, Afande Kagame, Afande Rwigyema. These were always the greatest military heroes!”
However, Muhoozi’s praising Kagame as one of his greatest heroes comes at a time when Rwanda’s borders to Uganda are still closed and there vivid tension between the two neighbouring countries.
Kagame closed Rwanda’s borders to Uganda early last year, after accusing the government in Kampala of allegedly supporting dissidents that want to overthrow the establishment in Kigali.
He also accused the Ugandan government of illegally detaining several Rwandans safe houses manned by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and Internal Security Organisation (ISO).
Although the Ugandan government had initially denied the above allegations, they later backtracked and have since released several Rwandans who had been detained for several months without being paraded in court. Many of them were released secretly and driven at night by security operatives who dumped them at Rwanda’s border points in Gatuna and Cyanika respectively.
