Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni on June 1 said that the apparent interest of Ugandans in his son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba was for their own interests and money.

Museveni claimed that those who had shifted to Muhoozi’s movement were those who opposed his National Resistance Movement Party.

Muhoozi has been mobilizing supporters through his Movement ahead of his possible presidential bid.

He said in a statement that it was time for young people to rule Uganda because their time was running out.

Museveni said many of those who lost in the 2021 general elections have joined MK Movement.

“Many of those who lost in the 2021 general elections have joined MK Movement. This is partly due to the weakness of NRM. Some of the frustrated youth go to this group because they think there is hope,” Museveni said.

He said during his son’s 48th birthday, there was some enthusiasm among Ugandan youths.

Museveni said that after his analysis, he realized it was due to their system’s weakness.

He however said that his son is not aware that those joining him are looking for their own interests.

“I could see that it was a kind of resistance movement within the resistance movement. One of the things that Muhoozi doesn’t know is that some of them are looking for their own interests,” he said.

This came weeks after he met Muhoozi and members of his Movement at State House Entebbe.
