Gender Min. Tumwebaze Launches SAGE Program In Northern Uganda, Nine Districts To Benefit

Lira: The Cabinet Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development  Hon. Frank Kagyigyi Tumwebaze is set to launch the Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment (SAGE) Programme in Lango sub-region where over nine districts are expected to benefit.

Among the districts that will benefit from the program include Alebtong, Amolatar, Apac, Dokolo, Kole, Lira, Oyam, Otuke and Kwania District.

Tumwebaze said the program is in its final roll out and the ministry is aiming at covering the whole country, adding that social protection programmes like SAGE are part of the key of National Resistance Movement manifesto commitments being delivered, with very good progress.

“Yes we are on course with the final roll-out of SAGE program in the whole country. I am now in Lira to launch for Lango sub-region tomorrow Thursday (today). Social protection programmes like Sage are part of the key of NRM manifesto commitments being delivered with very good progress” Frank tweeted.

SAGE is part of the Social Protection Programmes implemented by the government of Uganda under the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development.

Under this program, government gives financial assistance to elderly people in all districts of the country, as one of the ways to help them sustainably overcome difficult days in their retirement age.

Minister Frank Tumwebaze, has since been moving around the country, launching the program which originally started in five districts, before it was rolled in other districts, with an objective of benefiting elderly people aged 80 years and above.
