General Court Martial Releases 17 NUP Supporters On Bail, Sends Eddie Mutwe, Nubian Li Back To Kitalya Coolers

Kampala: The General Court Martial sitting in Makindye has today released on bail 17 members and supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) who were arrested during the January 2021 general elections campaigns.

The released are part of the 35 NUP supporters who have been on remand following their arrest on December 30th, 2020 in Kalangala district, while on the campaign trail with NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and after they were charged with unlawful possession of ammunition

The sureties whom the court found substantial included Hon Mathius Mpuuga, David Rubongoya, Waswa Bufumbiro, Joel Senyonyi, all NUP officials.

The released include Samson Sekiranda, Mude Ntambi Robison, Don Sharif, Katamba Robert, Kyabangu Pumper, Kigongo Faiso aka Ras Faizo, Mulilira Musa, Sam Mutumba, Mukasa Husein, Sunday John Bosco, Tamale Fahad and and Nyanzi William among others.

The other 18 suspects, however, were not released on bail because the prosecutor told the court that their affidavits had not been fully examined.

The 18 out of the 35 remaining in Kitalya including Eddie Mutwe, Nubian Li, Dan Magic, Bobi Young among others are to re-appear in court for a hearing on 8th June.

Meanwhile, those who were granted bail have been ordered not to travel outside of Kampala and Wakiso districts without the court’s permission and to report back to court twice a week on Wednesdays.

“This court finds merit in the application of the applicants not objected to by the respondent. They should not go beyond the limits of Kampala and Wakiso beyond this court’s permission, they should report to this court twice a month after every 14 days on Wednesdays, each of them is bonded shs20 million not cash and each of the sureties shs50 million bond, not cash.”,” Gutti said.
