Kampala: Founded by the Global Handwashing Partnership, Global Handwashing Day is an annual global advocacy day dedicated to advocating for handwashing with soap as an easy, effective, and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.
This year, National Water and Sewerage Corporation joined the cause, under the theme, “Our Future is at Hand – Let’s Move Forward Together”, which calls for coordinated action in actively working toward universal hand hygiene.

Led by the corporation’s Deputy Managing Director-Finance and Corporate Strategy, Sylvia Alinaitwe, an NWSC team rendezvoused at the Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga and donated a number of items to commemorate the day as it provides a unique impulse to institutionalize hand hygiene as a fundamental component of health and safety.
The school’s Head Mistress, Sister Regina Nabawanuka, was utterly gratified and applauded NWSC for the gesture. She used the platform to not only acknowledge the corporation’s Corporate Social Responsibility, but also its impeccable service to the people in the area as she pointed out to the Lugazi Area Manager, Ms Lydia. “We have used this day to teach people the importance of washing our hands regularly and very well,” she said. She couldn’t help but acknowledge the customer delight clearly spread by Ms Lydia Kabasomi – AM Lugazi, and the great rapport built with the customers in the area, especially this reputed school.
