During the solemn commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, President Paul Kagame delivered a powerful message to Rwanda’s detractors.

President Kagame addressed those threatening to impose sanctions on Rwanda with a blunt message: “Go to hell.”

His words responded the continued foreign interference and pressure, especially from Western countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

These nations have recently imposed sanctions against Rwanda, mechanically accusing Rwanda responsibility in the DRC crisis .

President Kagame also warned those who wish ill upon Rwanda or seek to destabilize it, asserting that the country has moved far from its tragic past and will not tolerate any effort to reverse its hard-won progress.

“Rwandans should be itching for a fight with anyone who wants to come here and turn things upside down,” President Kagame said.

“What didn’t kill us and finish us 31 years ago, has hardened us, prepared us for the bad things that will always come anytime.

We will not die without a fight like last time,” he declared.

The president’s message was not only for external actors, but also for Rwandans, to remind them of the strength they have built over three decades and the unwavering resolve to protect their nation’s dignity and sovereignty.

This powerful speech came shortly after Rwanda severed all diplomatic ties with Belgium for choosing sides in the ongoing DRC crisis, rather than contributing to a solution.

Belgium has deep historical ties to the region, bears responsibility for many of the root causes of the ongoing instability due to its colonial legacy.
