Fort Portal: 14 years old student of AFRIYEA Golf Academy, Damian Asiimwe who trained at Toro club day in and day out, his efforts has paid off after winning the first major tournament that saw him beating a field of 105 players to set a new course record at the oldest golf club in western region.

In the Equity Rwenzori Open Tournament, Damian scored 56Net at the par 70 golf course crushing his closest rival Simon Businge with a difference of 7 strokes.
The tournament attributed the country’s top professionals and armateurs. On the list of professionals were Deo Akope, Ronald Rugumayo, David Kamulindwa, Mutebi Deco, Henry Lujja, Adolf Muhumuza, Happy Robert, Fred Wazala among others and on the side of armateurs they had Peace Kabasweka, Joseph Cwinya-ai, Michael Tumusiime, Peter Kisembo, Michael Alunga, Denis Asaba, Gaita Rodell, Amon Bwambale among others.

In his interaction with our reporter, Damian said, “I am happy to win this major tournament and I will build from this experience to win many more tournaments.”
Isaiah Mwesige, CEO of AFRIYEA golf academy congratulated all the winners and thanked Damian in particular for his outstanding performance. “You’ve made us proud with your extraordinary performance,” said Isaiah.

Joseph Cwinya-ai, the winner of the gross category applauded Equity Bank manager who sponsored the event and also extended his special thanks to Damian and AFRIYEA Golf academy for the initiative of beginning a program to train the new generation of golf players.
In response, the manager of Equity bank announced that they will continue sponsoring this event for the next five years.

“These are the future golfers of this country and we must support them in any way possible,” stated Joseph the national team captain.
The big event had big names like JB Tumusiime who advised the club members to be careful in the voting of the next executive. The annual general meeting AGM to vote for the new executive shall be held on Saturday 27th, 03, 2021.
Toro Golf Course located in Fort Portal, western Uganda has very credible 9 holes with mature trees lining the long sweep of the fairways and the Rwenzori Mountains hovering in the distance, the whole place is gifted with nature and hospitable natives.
