Government Delivers on Its Promises, Orders Finance Min.To Release Public Universities workers’ Salary Increment!

The Government of Uganda has directed the Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development to clear the outstanding commitment made in the Financial Year 2017/18 amounting to Shs58.5 Billion for Salary Enhancement for Public Universities’ Lecturers and Non-teaching staff, TheSpy can report.

While addressing the press conference on Tuesday, the Executive Director Uganda Media Centre Mr Ofwono Opondo revealed that Lecturers and Non-teaching staff will be paid according to the Government Pay Policy approved in the subsequent year.

Mr Opondo said the Government’s move to meet the salary demand for the Public University workers is intended to settle the uncertainties and improving service delivery at these Government institutions.

Public Universities like Makerere University Lecturers and Non-teaching staff have severally put Government under intense pressures through industrial actions demanding for a pay rise. Makerere University was closed in 2016/17 academic year on orders of the President.
