Kampala: Ugandan Government has summoned Kuehne + Nagel a logistics and global transport company based in Schindellegi, Switzerland that delivered the suspicious Bank of Uganda cargo to help in investigations.
This eruption comes days after the State house anti-corruption unit led by Lt.Col Edith Nakalema raided Bank of Uganda and arrested five top officials alleged to have printed and shipped over Shs90 billion in the country illegally.

According to reports, the cargo was supposed to be flown in a privately chartered plane (MD-IIF) courtesy of M/S KUEHNEL + NEGEL with flight number ASK4042/LGG – EBB/26 on April 2019 which was however changed to another plane (B747-400BCF) thus confusion and put the Bank on the spot.

While addressing journalists last week, Nakalema said they had summoned the operators of airline that delivered the cargo into the country to help in investigations.
“We summoned the plane owners to find out who cleared the cargo. This is a wide investigation involving many people and agencies. It will take us a long time to decide on who to take to court,” Nakalema confirmed adding that they are interested in knowing how the firm received the extra cargo and on whose orders it added the 20 pallets ordered for by Bank of Uganda.

The printing firm contracted by Bank of Uganda is M/s Oberthur Fiduciaire in France which according to sources is said to have ordered the driving of money by road to Belgium where a private plane had been chartered to airlift the cargo to Uganda. Money printed was 70 millions pieces of 50K notes that amounted to 350 Billion shillings and this was packed in 20 pallets before an extra 5 pallets were added into the cargo.
