Government To Borrow USD 335 Million To Finance Municipal Infrastructure Development.

The Cabinet, sitting at the President’s office in Kampala on Monday approved the Government’s proposal to borrow USD 335 Million from the International Development Association(IDA) of the World Bank, TheSpy can report.

According to Government SpokesPerson Ofwono Opondo in a press briefing on Tuesday, the Government move is intended to get additional Financing for the Uganda support to Municipal Infrastructure Development Program.

Mr Opondo said the loan will help in Rehabilitation and construction of urban roads and associated infrastructure such as drainage works, Cycle lanes, Pedestrians walkways, trash cans, street lights among others. “ We will be able to beautify public parks, landscaping our towns and planting trees on Road verges,” Opondo said.

‘’We need to construct Market stalls for vendors at bus, tax and Lorry Parks, more also, the markets we have are not enough so the Government is working hard to set up more and even slaughter houses and providing for waste management systems,’’ he said.

He added that Municipalities and District Local Governments hosting a large number of Refugees will be given grants to support infrastructure like construction of small bridges and box culvert mpassable sections, setting up play fields, resource centres and community buildings to promote sports and art and culture.
