Sheema: A government vehicle, a Mitsubishi double-cabin number UG 3233R, is stuck in front of Top and Premier betting companies in Kabwohe town, Sheema municipality, where it has been parked for over three weeks.
It is alleged that the said vehicle belongs to the office of the Chairman LC V Sheema district Canon David Kabigumira, who nowadays is seen cruising around in a private vehicle, a Toyota Harrier and sometimes in other government vehicles.
This reporter’s efforts in trying to ask the chairman what happened to the vehicle and why it is parked in front of betting companies proved futile as our repeated phone calls went unanswered.
However,Sheema District speaker Nicholas Kwariija said the vehicle was improperly handled by the office of Chairman and it got mechanical problems.
“The District Vehicle allocated to the Chairman is a matter of public importance. But it is the most abused vehicle in the district. It is always driven by people who are not authorized to drive it.” Kwariija said.
He added that “By the time it broke down it was being driven by a councillor from Kashozi who was driving to Bishop Stuart University to submit his personal course work. It was a brand new vehicle and by the time it gets an engine problem that needs overhaul, you know that is a serious matter” he added.
However, the Speaker’s words cleared allegations which had been circulating that the vehicle had been seized by one of the betting companies after the person who was driving it failed to pay a bet he had lost.
