Gov’t Offers Shs1M Bounty For Goons Who Killed Senior Police Officer

The government of Uganda has through the Uganda Police Force offered Shs1M to anyone who arrests or helps them arrest assailants who kileld Ayivuni Police OC in Arua district, who has hacked by unknown goons a few days back.

Corporal Santos Chandwong from Omel Village, Koch-Goma Sub-County, Gulu district was attacked by unknown men who hacked him to pieces using pangas. before fleeing with his gun.

After the gruesome murder, Police headquarters deployed a team of Flying Squad Officers to track the suspects but they have since failed to apprehend any of the suspects, which prompted governement to stake a Shs1M for anyone who helps detectives to arrest the killers.

Christopher Barugahare, the Regional Police Commander West Nile, said that the offer will cease to be valid after the end of next month.

However, this is the first time police in W. Nile is offering a motivating factor to lure locals to provide information on criminal gangs terrorizing people in the region.

The police have in the past offered money to the public to help them arrest suspects in high porfile murders in vain.

It should be noted that they offered money to anyone who would give them information about the murder of former AIGP Andrew Felix Kawesi and later kidnap victim Suzan Magara, although to date no one has ever claimed the money, despite several suspects being arrested.
