The government of Uganda has registered a deficit of Shs603.69 Bn revenue equivalent to 10% below the target of Shs6,071.47Bn which was targeted in the first quarter of financial year 2019/2020.
This was revealed by Keith Muhakanizi, the permanent secretary ministry of finance, planning and economic development, during the relaunch of ‘Budget Transparency Platforms’ and release of quarter two expenditure of financial year 2019/2020, totaling to Shs5,002Bn.
Muhakani said that “Government had targeted to collect Shs6,071.47B from quarter one of the financial year 2019/2020, but managed to collect only Shs5,467.78Bn due to various reasons attributed to delays in implementation of some administrative measures, among others.”
He added that, The relaunch of Budget Transparency Platforms is aimed at easing access of the public to budget related information. Cumulatively, government has released 55.9% of the approved national budget for financial year 2019/20 for half year.”
Meanwhile Muhakanizi lashed at government accounting officers, agencies and Permanent Secretaries at all levels who are neglecting government assets in line with their roles, responsibilities and positions.
He said such people have done a lot to hinder transparency and effective service delivery.
