Gov’t Releases Fees For Mulago’s New Specialized Women Neonatal Hospital

Government of Uganda represented by Minister of Health, Dr Ruth Aceng has on Wed.released fees for getting services at the new Mulago Specialized Women and Neonatal Hospital.

While addressing the journalists at media centre on Wed., Dr. Jane revealed that patients who require services will first cough Shs50,000 as consultation fees, those for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) will need to Pay a whooping Shs13 million each.

The 450-bed capacity hospital will help women with complex reproductive health problems to be treated and also reduce referrals abroad.

Dr Aceng said that new charges came up after government had made thorough consultations on the charges by visiting other countries offering similar services.

“Services will be classified as standard, VIP and VVIP; Clinical services offered to all patients at all levels irrespective of pay, will be the same,” she said.

She added that the facility will offer free services until October 9, 2018.

The Minister also revealed that 180 health workers had already been trained in specialised maternal and neonatal services.

The hospital is designed to accommodate 450 patients with one attendant each day.

President Yoweri Museveni is slated to officially launch the hospital next month.
