Kampala: The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have come out and distances themselves from the kidnappers, among which one of them was masquerading as a UPDF officer in their military uniform who kidnapped and robbed Shs10m from a businessman in Kabale town, on Independence day.
Semwogerere Kajwenje, a money changer at Katuna border, was kidnapped by armed men who were driving in a Pajero vehicle with army number plates, although some escaped and one was arrested after they were intercepted by the police.
However, one of the suspects arrested by police turned to be a man dressed in a UPDF uniform who identified himself as Bahram Tumwebaze.
Shortly after TheSpy Uganda publishing the article this morning, Deputy army spokesperson Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki got in touch with us via WhatsApp and revealed that the purpoted ‘officer’ isn’t their staff. “Take Note: Investigations so far indicate that the person in Uniform is actually an impersonator,” Akiiki told our reporter Andrew Irumba via WhatsApp chat.
Suffice it to say that the police are still conducting investigations into the matter and hunting for the other suspects still at large, such that they can be brought to book.
